For my lovely random_nexus:

Tuna Rice Casserole
Makes 4 servings

Prep time: 10 minutes
Bake time: 50 minutes

- 1 can (10 1/2 oz) cream of mushroom soup
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 2 cans (about 6 oz each) tuna, drained
- 1 cup sliced American cheese, cut up (I use shredded cheddar to give it a bit of a flavor kick)
- 3/4 cup uncooked regular long-grain white rice
- 2 tablespoons dry bread crumbs
- 1 tablespoon butter, melted
- Dash crushed red peppers

This recipe is also good if you omit the paprika and red peppers and add onion/garlic powder, or black pepper. It's kind of a blank canvas for flavors.. play around =D I also forgo the measured out breadcrumbs, and palm them out and pour butter & cheese over them. More cheese makes everything better in this house. Experiment XD

1. Stir the soup, mix, paprika, red pepper, tuna, cheese, and rice in a 9-inch square baking dish. Cover the dish with foil.
2. Bate at 350° for 30 minutes. Uncover the dish and stir.
3. Mix the bread crumbs with the butter in a small bowl and sprinkle over the tuna mixture. Bake 20 minutes more or until hot and bubbly and the rice is tender.

To make myself feel better, I plan future knitting projects.

and I want to experiment with KnitPicks newest yarn. It all looks so smooshy and beautiful and soft, but I need some opinions.

The multicolored yarns are handpainted, so they're not self striping. The colors would be in a more random pattern.

There are several possible color combinations.

What I want to do is use the Stroll hand painted yarn (the multicolored one) on either the lace top/bottom or as the middle part and then use a solid color on the other section. I don't know which would look better. Opinions? And what combination is your favorite?

Working on some absolutely dorky knitting projects, as well as a couple presents for random_nexus and kynn.

I even bought a graph paper notebook so I can sketch these things XD

Digital TV hot line gets 700,000 calls over switch

So America switched to DTV yesterday. How on earth were people NOT PREPARED FOR THIS?! We were first told that it would be happening in February 2009, but television providers appealed for more time. Feb-u-fucking-rary, people.

Least I Could Do is probably one of the most thought provoking, offensive, hilarious web comics I've ever read. I love it to death. And Ryan Sohmer's blog posts make them even better. I thought I'd share his latest:

With all the interesting things in the news of late, I’ve been having a hard time picking what to talk about today.

Initially, I had intended to write about the utter uselessness that is the United Nations, in response to their (in)actions to the North Korean situation. The league of nations failed to prevent world war II, so I suppose it seemed a good idea at the time to rename it The United Nations and hope for the best.

The next topic I was considering was Obama’s nomination of Sonia Sotomayor for the Supreme court. I don’t know enough about her to make a call either way, but what is bothering me here is that every politician, every news anchor, every analyst and commentator is focusing on her ethnicity, rather than her qualifications.

This doesn’t help ease racial issues and tensions, it only highlights them.

Over at CNN, Ruben Navarrette talks about what a step forward this is. For me, a step forward would have been had Sotomayor been nominated, and no one even remarked on the fact that she was Hispanic. That she got nominated because the President thought she was the best candidate for the job.

In the end, though, the thing that’s predominantly on my mind is yesterday’s decision in California to uphold proposition 8, which bans gay marriage in the state. This measure, passed by a close vote during the November elections, overturned a May 2008 ruling by the California Supreme court that had made it constitutional for same-sex couples to get hitched in the state.

I am a proponent for gay rights, but more importantly, I make no distinction between gay and civil rights.

A gay individual in California pays their state and federal taxes like anyone else, so why are they denied certain rights? The bible may define marriage as a union between a man and a woman, but isn’t the bible based on a system of religious beliefs? Isn’t there supposed to be a clean line that separates church and state?

What gives someone the right to impose their beliefs on someone else?

I may not agree with your beliefs, whether you’re Christian, Muslim or Jewish, but I won’t spend millions of dollars and countless hours to deny you a civil right that I enjoy.

That environment, California, is not where I would choose to live, or raise children, gay or not.

The year is 2009, and the fact that we’re even having this conversation is absurd to me.
